I’m falling for Fall!

August 31, 2021 by sydnidoyle Leave a Comment

Autumn is fast approaching! With it comes a heavy, romantic aesthetic that you can feel in the air and taste in the food. It’s cozy and comfy. Heart warming. I want to share some fun activities you can do this fall!

Autumn colors in Branson Missouri .
Our vacation to Branson in 2018. The autumn colors were out of this world beautiful! I love this photo I took of Billy.

I’m kicking off the fall season here on my blog by sharing some of annual fall traditions. Whether you’re looking for a book recommendation or a list of fun fall activities, you’re sure to find something you’ll enjoy today!

Autumn is when I feel most like myself. My soul feels happiest this time of year and it makes sense- I’m an October baby!

I begin decorating with leaves and pumpkins as early as my husband will let me. Fall scented candles are usually lit before anything else. It helps to set the vibe of the season. Followed by a recipe or two containing pumpkin and its companion spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and clove.

Fall in love with books

Autumn is my favorite season for reading. It’s so easy to sit down on a cool day and take a moment to get lost in a story filled with all of your favorite things.

Can you guess the genre that I typically reach for? I’m sure it comes at no surprise that my favorite books are romantic novels. With that said, I do love a good mystery or *slightly* spooky novel from time to time. I am definitely not one to read or even recommend a scary/horror novel. Those aren’t for me.

The Bakeshop at Pumpkin and Spice by Tiffany Morgan

This book is the epitome of autumn. I mean, the name says it all! I’m currently reading this book and enjoying every second of it.

This novel is set in a small town in Maine in the thick of autumn as they prepare for the annual Halloween parade. A local bakery, Bellaluna’s Bakeshop, is a family owned business where spellbinding treats often play role as match maker. The pages of this book are filled with romance and seasonal spirit. If you’re into that sort of thing then definitely snag The Bakeshop at Pumpkin and Spice!

Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie

If you’re into haunting mysteries similar to Goosebumps by R. L. Stine then waste no more time.

Scritch Scratch is on my list to read this fall for sure. While it is listed as a mystery story about a haunting, it doesn’t seem so scary that I can’t handle it.

The story is about a woman named Claire. She stumbles upon an unsolved mystery concerning a young boy while helping her father conduct a ghost tour in Chicago. She becomes haunted by the boy ghost and decides she must figure out what it is he needs before it’s too late.

Mysteries are fun to read because you’re left making guesses about the story until it finally unfolds on the pages. Nothing beats a good mystery during fall!

What to watch this fall

I don’t have a ton of time in the world to sit down and read, even finish a book. This leaves me searching for good movies and tv shows to watch that help get me in the spirit of fall. It’s easier for me to turn something on while I cook or clean, I’ve become a an even better multitasker since having Brody.

Good Witch on Netflix

This show is so cute! Cassie Nightingale and her teenage daughter, Grace, share intuitive charm. This show is the quintessential seasonal/holiday show as it is set in Middleton, a small town in Massachusetts where community is everything. Although it is never stated in the tv series that Cassie Nightingale and her daughter are witches, it’s understood they each have a special gift of offering intuitive assistance.

While there aren’t spells or witch rituals in this show, you will find lots of comedy and romance as it focuses on the strong emotions and bonds of family, relationships and community. It’s such a heart-warming show that’s sure to get you in the mood for fall this year!

The Odd Life of Timothy Green on Disney+

Talk about a tear jerker! I just recently watched this movie, today to be exact, and it was so adorable.

This one stars Joel Edgarton and Jennifer Garner as a married couple who is unsuccessful at getting pregnant. One of the opening scenes shows a doctor explaining they’ve exhausted their resources and must accept their future without biological children. After returning home that night, the couple buries a box filled with their wishes for what they hope a child of theirs might be. Suddenly, a boy arrives at their front door and he helps them to realize that the unexpected can bring some of life’s biggest joys.

This movie is wonderful for fall because you can cuddle up on the couch with a blanket and popcorn and enjoy some beautiful autumn scenery as it is set in that time of year. You’ll see beautiful crisp autumn leaves that we are all longing for! Plus, I feel for any couple struggling with infertility, fictional story or not. This one certainly tugs on the heart strings.

Fall Flavors!

With fall comes delicious, hearty flavors that make my tummy AND soul so happy.

Drinks for Fall

I’ll go ahead and get this one over with – I am pro-pumpkin spice anything and everything. I’ll take it however I can get it. With that said, not *all* fall drinks are pumpkin spice themed.

A basic Pumpkin Spice Latte is delicious but if you want something that tastes more like coffee and less like spice then order a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks. The coffee is the usual Starbucks cold brew but it’s topped with a thick layer of (only slightly) pumpkin flavored fluffy cream then sprinkled with pumpkin spices.

If you aren’t a pumpkin or spice fan, you can’t go wrong with an Apple Crisp Macchiato or Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew.

When I think of fall drinks I think pumpkin, apple and caramel. Those excite my taste buds most this time of year.

Foods for Fall

When I think of fall food, chili instantly comes to mind. It’s hearty and leaves you feeling warm and full. I’ll be uploading my favorite chili recipe very soon so be on the lookout for that.

If you happen to be out running errands and find yourself craving a good chili, I’d highly recommend ordering a cup of turkey chili from Panera Bread. They do a wonderful job at combining the flavors of ground turkey, carrots, chickpeas, tomatoes and all the chili spices. This turkey chili is my favorite restaurant style chili ever and I never feel guilty when I’ve finished the whole bowl!

More fall themed posts to come…

I hope I inspired you to try something new this autumn season. Let me know in the comments what you enjoy doing during fall.

I’d love it if you could share this to your Facebook or Instagram so that I can broaden my audience. With your help I can reach more and more people!

Thanks so much for reading today, I hope you have a wonderful week!
